What is the JEE-Main examination?
JEE-Main is an All-India Level Engineering/Architecture Entrance Competitive Examination organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It was previously called All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).
Who regulates JEE Main?
JEE main will be conducted two Times a year by National Testing Agency (NTA). It was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) earlier. The agency is an autonomous setup by the Ministry of HRD to organize entrance exam.
The JEE examination was introduced in the year 2002 and then renamed in the year 2017 in April. This national level test is for admission to various undergraduate Engineering & Architecture courses. Students who qualify JEE Main examinations can get admissions into National Institutes of Technology (NITs) & Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs)
Until the year 2018, JEE-Main was being organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It was held both on paper and electronically, but, from the year 2019, it is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Now it is held two Times a year in computer-based mode.
How can you appear for the IIT-JEE exam?
In order to be eligible for undergraduate engineering courses from(Any of the NITs, IIITs, Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTI) or Institutions that are funded by participating State Governments) following merits are considered:
- The performance in class 12 or equivalent qualifying examination and
- Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main) Score
It is also to be noted that the Paper-1 (B.E./B. Tech.) of JEE Main is an Eligibility Test for the JEE Advanced examination. A candidate has to appear for the Advance exam if s/he is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programs offered by the Indian Institute of Technology.
JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2025
1. Age Limit – There is no age limit for the candidates who are appearing for JEE Main examination. They should have either passed XII Std/equivalent qualifying examination in the same year or two years prior. If they are willing to take admissions into their desiring Institutes then they must fulfill age limit requirements of that Institute.
2. A number of attempts- The no. of attempts for admission in a particular academic session will be considered as ‘One’.
3. Eligibility for appearing in JEE Main exam allows a candidate to appear in the examination for three consecutive years.
4. It would be optional for the candidate to appear once or twice or all Four times for the current academic session.
5. If a candidate has appeared in both the sessions i.e. April and May, then the better of all exam scores will be used for the admission and best of the scores would be taken for the merit list for the eligibility for JEE Advanced.
